Midnighters Vol.3

The main plot of this installment is the sudden emergence of the "blue time" right in the middle of the DAY. Thats right, the secret hour is happening OUTSIDE of midnight now. This suspense leaves the 5 Midnighters restless and drives them to find answers.
The secret hour is finally "ripping" coming into normal time, where the darklings will hunt again after a millennium of starvation. A "rip" is basically a contortion between blue time and regular time, joining the Darkling world with the human world. Now, its in the hands of these 5 Midnighters to save Bixby, or possibly the world, because now thousands of lives are stake.
The two couple(s) relationship becomes stronger, leaving Dess feel lonelier than ever. This was the most emotional installment because each and every character makes a sacrifice towards the end to save the world, but one sacrifice will leave your jaw-dropped and eyes popped. Sometimes one life is worth sacrificing to save lives of thousands.
The significance of Halloween will be explained and so will the purpose of the Midnighters.
This is a dramatic piece and a thrilling page-turner, filled with action, adventure and romance. A battle takes place towards the end with an unpredictable conclusion.Out of all three, this one had the most action. I really wished Scott Westerfeld had written an alternate ending because I prefer "Happily Ever Afters", thats the true END to me. Oh well, not all stories have a happy ending, just like life doesn't always have a happy ending. In a way i am glad for this ending because it reminds me of the imperfect reality and world we live in. Sometimes made-up stories mess with your mind soo much that a person loses hope each time life doesn't go there way.
Midnighters Vol.2
Second installment of the Midnighters trilogy.
Jessica Day has finally discovered her powers and now she knows why the Darklings were out to get her. She,out of all the midnighters, possesses powers strong enough to KILL darklings with common household utensils, like a flashlight. After thousands of years comes along Jessica who can bring technology and fire INTO the secret hour, something the darklings greatly feared. Just like how darklings manipulate peoples nightmares, Jessica is bringing their nightmares to their sanctuary. The reason why the darklings had created the secret hour has diminished all thanks to jessica. Ever since Jessica discovered her powers and the darklings attempt to kill her was a fail, they have decided to leave her alone.
In this installment, not only is Jessica in danger but ALL Midnighters are at the risk of becoming extinct. Surprisingly, the cause of this extinction is not darklings but mere humans. The Midnighters fear there are some people out there who know about the existence of the "secret hour" and to top this, they know a whole lot more than the Midnighters.
Melissa will become better at manipulating her mindcasting powers. Jessica will become the unstoppable Flame-bringer. Jonathan will apply his knowledge of physics to enhance the "flying experience". Dess will stumble upon a gadget which will take numbers to a whole new level. But Rex will discover there is a lot more to the lore than meets the eye. Rex will come to know that even though lore does not lie, their answer to the plot holes in the lore lies within Bixby's Daylighters(people) history. All Midnighters will learn something unpredictable occurred to the past generation of Midnighters 50 years ago which made them all disappear, the same way these 5 are about to now.
The second installment is very fast paced and picks up right after the first one halted. In my opinion, it is better than the first because it has a greater mystery aspect to it. Relationships will be taken to a new level. Secrets about the secret hour will be revealed. Of course, unlike the first one, this one doesn't take time building up the plot, getting into the story, developing characters and setting; but goes right into the main plot.

Midnighters Vol.1
Scott Westerfeld has done a marvelous job by mixing fantasy, mystery, science fiction and romance concisely. Such an exclusive and original story can only be created by a master-mind.
"Midnighters" as the title suggests is about group of 5 teenagers who roam Bixby, Oklahoma at the stroke of midnight for a WHOLE HOUR, which is the 25th hour exclusive to only them 5 while the entire Bixby is frozen stiffs. However,In this 25th hour, they are not alone! Darklings, ancient creatures whose mere existence goes back to the Stone Ages roam around freely, but they usually don't bother anyone;until Jessica Day moves to town. Apart from being a Midnighter, there is something special about Jessica that even the other four midnighters can not seem to wrap their minds around.
The darklings want her DEAD and they will surpass all boundaries to have her dead. Each Midnighter possesses a power (mindcasting, seer, polymath, flying) and then there is Jessica whose power is still unknown but interesting enough to send the scary and powerful darklings into a frenzy.
This book was like X-men with a whole new twist. Of course there was romance involved. No YA book is good without romance. Even though romance was not the central plot of this story, it was still dominant to give readers "awe" moments.
This books is very well-written with good character development. The POV of this book is very interesting because its told in a third-person, but in every chapter the narrator changes. This way you get a chance to get inside ALL midnighters heads and see the world from their vision. I loved how Scott did so flawlessly. At the end of each chapter, there is a symbol which belongs to each midnighter letting the reader know who was narrating a specific chapter.
This is the first book of the trilogy, so many would expect the ending to be a major cliff-hanger. I can gladly reassure you that this book is in no way a cliff-hanger. THANK GOD! It can be read as a stand-alone, although i would recommend to continue the trilogy since it only gets better and more questions will be answered.

Fade
FADE was the best installment out of all three books. Very fast-paced with no dull moment in sight.
After Janie accepts her faith as a dream catcher, she must now put her supernatural abilities to good use. Thus, along with Cabe she begins to work under-cover and her first assignment is to catch a sexual predator at her SCHOOL. The sexual predator is lurking at the only place Janie thought was safe and he is one of her own teachers. She risks her own life to get to the bottom of this case even when Cabe is totally against the whole idea.
Janie comes to discover her future as a dream catcher after meeting Ms. Stubin at the retirement home, who by far is the only other dream catcher Janie is aware of. Ms.Stubin teaches Janie how to use and control her abilities properly. But where there is good there is bad: Something awful awaits Janie in the future and there is no running away from it. Her twisted future is concealed and can never be changed. Janie learns the truth about her gift/curse that will change the course of her life.....forever. This will not only affect her but also her beloved Cabe.
Janie and Cabels relationship evolves and their love blossoms. Thank goddness for no love triangles!
Janies mother is lazy and drunk as usual. She has a minor/annoying part in this where all she does is scold Janie, when it is because of Janie she is still alive.
The reason why I prefer this novel over the other two in the trilogy is because Lisa McMann's writing style evolves. Unlike Wake, where she mostly wrote in short lines(not paragraphs), here she writes fluidly. The reader can tell Lisa put more effort into this novel than the last one.
The plot of Fade is better because it has a mystery aspect to it "who done it"?. For some odd reason, I really liked *SPOLIER* the Durbins party scene. I thought it was very well descripted and felt like I was at the party myself(too bad I couldn't save Janie). The book had such a strong hold on me that i read it in just one sitting, it was too captivating to let go.
